Tromso Olympiad Recap: Rd. 5

This round (like every round before it) saw some amazing upsets. Unfortunately the PGN was released quite late in the day so I wasn’t able to analyze the games as completely as I would have liked too.

10. IM Vakhidov (2471) – GM Korobov (2680) 0-1

Thus far the Ukrainian team has had a tough go of it. Ivanchuk hasn’t been playing well and they seem to be playing inconsistently. You really have to feel for Korobov, he completely outplayed his opponent and was just on the verge of finishing the job when he made a few dubious moves and then blundered terribly.

9. IM Collins (2495) – Lorne (2056) –  1/2-1/2

For the second time this tournament IM Collins has made my list (his first coming in the first round against Liu). In this game White played somewhat inaccurately in the opening which allowed black to have an easy game. After a dubious move or two black let the game slip and allowed white to play a repetition of moves.
