2. Al-Tamimi (2186) – GM Nepomniachtchi (2714) 1/2-1/2
Incredibly this isn’t the biggest upset of the round. Al-Tamimi managed to nick a draw from one of the strongest Russian players in the world. Additionally Nepomniachtchi had a very slight pull for a good portion of the game. Al-Tamimi was resilient and held on long enough to secure the draw; quite an impressive effort.
1. Meier (2039) – Lupulescu (2625) 1/2-1/2
Here it is the biggest upset of the second round! Meier played a nice game against a world class GM and earned a half point for his efforts.
