10 Games from 2014

7. Kasimdzhanov vs Kramnik (Olympiad; D37) 1-0

Like Rapport, Kasimdzhanov played some excellent games this year. This game tops the list as far as competition and the game itself is quite good. In this game, Kasimdzhanov plays a brilliant sacrifice, and forces the king out of its shelter. I couldn’t find annotations posted anywhere, which is why the game seems a bit bare.

Runner Up:

Nakamura – Van Wely (Tata Steel; B45) 0-1 – This game was a nice reminder that all top players on any given day can be quite dangerous with either color. Van Wely hasn’t done a whole lot in recent years but this game he completely dismantles Nakamura in a sharp Sicilian.
